Germany year nine zero godard last lemmy caution

08 June 2005

Eddie Constantine reprises his Lemmy Caution character for the last time in this 1991 TV film by Jean-Luc Godard.

Germany Year Nine Zero follows the now elderly spy's journey back to France from the east. Since the Cold War has ended Lemmy is unclear about who his enemies are, and he doesn't know what to do with himself. Jean-Luc Godard's film is a series of scenes that present his thoughts on European unification and the fall of Communism. The title harkens back to Roberto Rossellini's Germany Year Zero, a film made in the immediate aftermath of World War II that, like Godard's film, considered the fate of the world in changing political conditions. As his use of Rossellini's title suggests, Godard is concerned with the fate of cinema as well as the fate of the world. He is concerned that as borders are erased, and as the world comes more and more under the sway of corporate power, the cinema will become more and more homogenized and commercial.

** It is VERY IMPORTANT that you please read the following if you are thinking of ordering. While every effort is made to have it on the way to you sooner, please allow up to 4 to 6 weeks from the time your order is PAID (not merely received) for processing (longer for very large and international orders) plus normal USPS shipping time, which appears to have gotten much worse the past year. Curious as to why 4 to 6 weeks instead of two days after you order? Here's why...99% of everything having to do with Hard to Find Films is handled solely by yours truly.
That includes, but is not limited to finding the films, checking the films once they arrive, handling and searching for rare film requests, taking orders, filling orders (which includes quantity orders for our store customers who we've been dealing with for years now), delivering orders (again, to our store customers), packing orders, shipping orders and handling email inquiries (which can be as many as 50-80 per day!). In other words, I am NOT sitting here languishing on a sofa, purposely not sending your order which sits beside me gathering cobwebs while I'm being fed fresh grapes from one of the many beauties in my personal harem (don't I wish ;). And please allow up to 48 hours or even more occassionally for me to get back to you when/if you email due to the large volume of emails I deal with each day. Also understand that sometimes I get the flu, or the computer breaks down or catches a "virus" or any of a number of "real-life" scenarios that can be the cause for me not getting back to you in YOUR time frame. Sending me 5 emails in a row over a 2-hour period and me not getting back to you on the 3rd hour is NOT me "not answering" your emails. Speaking of which, if you are sent an automated email after a purchase or happen to see an email address for us that ends in "verizon.net", that email address has been INVALID for a good couple of years, so please don't use it. But every time I think I've gotten rid of it, it mysteriously returns to confuse new customers. Some of those same automated emails also state a 3-4 week shipping time, which is also INVALID, but we cannot seem to correct that since it was originally written years ago?!

Note: I CANNOT do "rush" orders or OVERNIGHT EXPRESS, regardless of whether it's for that special someone's birthday, a dear friend who may be at death's door and for some reason must see this film immediately, your son or daughter's school presentation or project, to teach your class or for a visiting dignitary, so please don't ask.

And, in case you're worried that I'm going to "lose my steam" or even die on you before you get your order, let me assure you that I've been doing this almost singlehandedly since around the mid-90's and have filled literally thousands of orders and will continue to do so. I'm still relatively young, eat well (I'm primarily vegetarian, almost vegan), drink rarely, do not do drugs (including the "legal" over the counter variety) or smoke and have recently "upped my health ante" by giving up sugar in addition to the previous. PLEASE do NOT send me emails "checking on the status" of your order, UNLESS it's been more than 6 weeks. Rest assured that it's here, I'm working on it, you WILL get it, even if it mysteriously "disappears" in transit as happens occassionally.

So, in conclusion, if you are a buyer who purchases today and wants it yesterday, we are NOT the seller for you. If you are not prepared to wait the clearly and concisely stated shipping time of 4-6 weeks, we must insist that you do NOT order from us. However, if quality, getting the best-possible print of a really-rare film and dealing with a seller who knows these films is your main concern, we are the seller for you and look forward to hearing from you. Thank you :)
